11 minutes 4 seconds, 3rd in class, 16th O.A. bike, #1 good time

Crossing the finish line on top of Pikes Peak is very emotional. Many riders and even car drivers can be heard through their helmets screaming woo hoo, or FUCK YEAH, FUCK YEAH!!  For some reason I was very calm after reaching the summit this year. Perhaps I am becoming used to it after reaching it seven times in the seven years I have competed. Perhaps it was because I knew my run was not blisteringly fast. I did beat my best time by two seconds but a jetting miss-calculation left my bike so fat up top that I was not able to pull top gear on the last few straights.
I did however experience some strong emotion on top. After taking off my helmet and doing the usual TV and radio interviews I decided to walk over to the finish line to watch some bikes catch the checkered flags. The second bike I saw fly by was a Triumph speed triple. The rider bravely celebrated across the line with a one handed peace sign. As I watched him pass I knew he was headed to the dangerous outside edge that have pulled racers off before. I watched him slip off the edge and then I saw the most violent thing I have ever seen as the bike and limp rag doll body bounced back up into sight, pinwheeled, bounced and repeated several times before coming to rest in a cloud of smoke, steam and granite boulder dust.
I have seen a rider cash in before on a dirt oval in Kansas. I have plucked a crushed toddler out of a crashed van in Mexico. Growing up on a ranch I have seen and been forced to take life and bring it in my own hands but watching chest compressions in the back of a flat bed pick up was a very chilling scene.
The mountain demands much respect. Anything that can take so much is also capable  of giving great glory. Nothing worth having comes easy and rarely does anything that comes easy ever worth having. I have five trophies from the peak and I respect what they represent. They remind me of what it means to finish 16th out of the 70 or 80 bikes there this year and know that I built my bike from salvage and scrap. That I spent as little money on the whole thing as some spend in tires in a week. They remind me of what kind of people such a prestigious event brings. Getting to associate and hang out with these people is icing on the cake. I all ready am looking forward to next year. Thank you to all who support me. Without the people I choose to surround my self with I would not be the man I am.

The Colorado pit at Dirt Quake USA.

I am still hashing memories of the trip to Castle Rock. A gathering of some of my best friends and that was a lot of travel because most of my best friends are from far away places like England and fucking Kansas. There were many trophies, empty bottles and new friends made. A quality gathering indeed! When something new happens people do not know what to expect and when the correct energies get together it is something special and rare. I hope it happens again!

The Beast

Just another dumpster bike turned race bike. I think I and other people often over look the fact that a old heap in near stock condition can make a great flattracker. besides the high output mods made to the engine this bike is really very stock. Taller shocks, fork spring preload spacers (11/16 sockets), a front wheel on the back, some bars, and a tank and seat. Bob is your mother fucking uncle! That said, the last time I raced it, she scared the shit out of me. big time. I think it may be time to look into that brass bushing swing arm mod. or a new swing arm. OR.... a Co-Built frame!!!

Weed is legal in Washington too!

I survived another Dirt Quake! Chopper speedway is hairy in more ways than one. Cowboy and I made the 20+ hour drive to Castle Rock Washington with minor difficulty and major whiskey consumption. I raced my XS Saturday night in the local club race and won the vintage twins class. 4th in 30+. The Vicious Cycles played in the pits amongst free beer. Sunday was a true spectacle of inappropriate speedway shenanigans. sidehacks, bikini tops, anything and everything, and so many huge smiles! Every time I pulled the old triumph chopper off the track we had to bailing wire, zip ty, duct tape or bungee chord something back on. In the main I rode as hard as I thought possible on the shit box of whitworth bolts. A fellow behind me folded his forks and had a fantastic low side. With a few laps to go I noticed my fuel tank dangling by the fuel line beside me, I snatched it up and tried to hold it on with my knees. Second place caught me on the last lap. We locked bars in 3 and 4, I had my inside peg plowing up dirt like crazy. It was insane! Ended up getting passed but by mistake was given 1st. I swapped trophies with the dude and told him how sick he was. Sick indeed. Just plain fucking retarded we are to do such a thing. I loved it!

Cherry popping, beans, and spam.

Did the first race on the SV after a busy week of prepping it and did my first short course road race, or street bike race, or what ever the hell it is called when you race a bike with clip ons on a tarmac race track. It was a fucking shit ton of fun! Despite the high cost of this form of racing I plan on doing a few more of these this year if all systems permit. I think the SV will be a great bike on Pikes Peak next year. I actually wish I was racing it this year but 450 class it is and 450 class I shall concur! The race was at High Plains Raceway about one hour east of my pad. The place is super fun. I want to go back soon!

Vint Open Main 4-26-14

my thinkings

So I know I spell as good as an outback aborigini who aint not never seen a dictonary. Thats fine, I dont care. People who judge people and base their believes off of such judgment dont concern me. I find it important to focus on the positive. every day is a huge oppertunitie that has been gifted from the cosmos. It is a huge mistake to not make the most of every oppertunity. Truly lucky are those who have enough wisdom to know what to do with their time. For in knowing what we want is power to eventualy get it. A clean freak enjoys a completed re-organized kitchen, a grease sniffing moto junkie enjoys a finished cycle. I love to embrace my Wife and share our time together. When nobody is around i like to adore a race trophy. My point is: Do what you want and do it well. embrace the positive. take lightly the negative. make the most of your time. I may practice my spelling a bit.... when race season is over.
