#DQUSA fuckingodamnsumbitch

Here is the Tommy's Triumph Shop sponsored bike I will be racing at Dirt Quake USA this year. Tommy. aka; Cowboy, aka; Cosmic Cowboy drove the bike out from Kansas so that I can get it "race prepped". First step was to chop off the rigid license plate mount that was aperantly built to do battle with D12 dirt movers. My leg still bares a scab as does Cowboy's. Lets talk about the friend I have Cowboy. I first met him racing the kansas county fair circuit. 1/2 mile flat track heaven. I saw this ragged old triumph sitting outside a cafe with a xr750 seat on it. I hit the brakes, grabbed my camera and swung back around the block. At the race latter that evening I saw this crazy gray beard riding the same bike around the pits in flip flops and downing PBR. Later that evening a older racer lost his life on the track. This led to some consumption of PBR in the pits and the consumating of new friends. The following year After the fair circuit I drove all the way across kansas to hang out at Cowboy's Shop. It was a sebatical of epic proportions. The wisdom and old motorcycles I have recieved from this fellow are more than large. His way of sponsoring me is how ever possible and he is someone I can call while driving across country and he will meet me at a race at the drop of a hat. He has up until reciently lived a lot in a small camper or caravan for you blokeys. He came to pikes peak to help me last year. Last januray he drove out to Denver to perform the marriage ceremony for me and my Cookie. of course he is ordaned. and the man knows how to drink whiskey and "recreate" colorado style. May the moto gods bless him and get us both to portland.

'tis the season

... to purchase a new bike. A bike for racing. I hope to get some tarmac track time on it this year and race the mountain on it next year. It is a 99 SV650, It aint a RC51 but it should be a good match for my wallet and keep me from binning myself on America's mountain.  It already has steel brake lines, crash damage, Ohlins shock, and sliders. Paul with  the speedtherapy blog has raced his Suzy on the Isle of Man and given me some advice on tuning them. Any other advice on setting them up or anything at all is much welcome.

old film

Out with the old, In with the new. Then, back to the old. What is it that makes us enjoy old stuff? The beauty in simplicity? The hands on satisfaction of seeing our work materialize instead of processed into some micro chip? Technology is not bad for it allows us more time to be free to enjoy the things we want. But what happens when all we want revolves around a shiny black rectangle screen that seems to manifest stupidity. Knowledge is power after all. We seek power and we seek freedom so maybe we pick up an old film camera and pay a shit ton of money and spend a shit ton of time to use it so that we feel less captivated by technology. "We" being me and the mouse in my pocket. So... What is about old stuff we (us motorcycling, bicycling, reverbed guitar, cuffed pant, film camera toting, hipsterdipsterdodas) enjoy about old stuff? I ask the mouse. It says click, as i post...

Fender Jag

I love guitars. Especially old ones. A guitar like a bike has a soul (i believe) or at least a story. a history. Something that inspires great interest in me. I collect these things because I am so fascinated by their energy. I also find such pleasure in reviving something that most would discard. Turning an old rat shit bike into a race winner. Taking a bicycle out of the dumpster and easily creating a device of immense fun. This old fender belonged to a close and bereaved friend of my fathers. Life is not always a golden chariot ride Perhaps explaining the condition of the once fine musical instrument. It has been in the condition seen for probably 30 years. It would appear he thought it best to router her out for some humbucker style pick ups. After spending the last few years trying to find the neck lost in a storage container of mystery and wonder (thats a whole nother story all together) I finally have all the pieces to start a resto job. Anybody out there have any resources for such a project? I need pickups and the knowledge to not fuck anything up. Anything worth doing is worth doing correct, however I cant see paying a shit ton for someone else to do it for me.

Other people's

I know, I know, I am just roaming around the net nabbing other peoples pictures. Inspiration is so abundant these days. motorcycles are popular. if it aint vintage it aint blah blah blah TZ750 flattracker is so blown out blah blah blah.... I want to ride one god damnit!!!

Vintage Hare & Hound Desert Racing (1967)...BSA, Greeves, Triumph, Norto...

Back when men were men, hair doos were good, suspension was bad, and a pit stop entailed a cigarette. If off road racing were still like this then I would still be an off road racer.

In Honda we trust. The saga continues.

My first motorbike memory was holding on to the cross bar of my Dad's 1982 XL250. That thing seemed so high off the ground. After graduating to the back seat I can remember him crossing a river that I would question crossing myself currently. Once his hat flew off and trying to catch it he crashed us in some grass. I thought that crashing business was rather fun! when I was three my parents split and it seemed like motorbikes were out of my future plans. However bicycles and urban bmx was the center of my life. When I was in 3rd grade I bought a 1979 z50 from my teacher for 20$. That was the beginning of a lesson that goes on and on and on... A clean carb is a happy carb. After so many attempts at cleaning the carb I stripped the screws out and never got more than a few passes of the driveway before the rust in the tank blocked the carb up again My mom decided I needed an upgrade. She spent a couple hundred on a 1986 cr80 that was a bit beyond half way clapped out. It was the middle of winter and it took me a few days before I could figure out how to get the premix soaked spark plug fouling peppy little spit fuck started. Then I had to learn how the hell a clutch lever worked. Despite the driveway being covered in packed snow I had so much fun that winter. I rode and rode and rode until all the teeth were rounded off the rear sprocket. little fucker would not go. took a while before I figured that one out. I was not born a natural mechanic. I had to learn the hard way. More like my mom had to learn. The bike ended up in the shop once a year for a rebuild after the kickstarter would stop working. It just would not move. After a few expensive repair bills my mom introduced me to the neighbor who rode bikes. He informed me of a thing called an air filter and described how it needs to be cleaned and oiled. He also took me to my first enduro. Being high (above 10,000 feet) and knowing of my throttle happy nature He let me borrow an old xr80 four stroke so I could learn the rocky and tree roots tech trails with a smoothness that my cr would have just brought tears on. After riding around on the ranch I would lean my bike up against a 55 gal drum we would burn our trash in. My Mom one day decided to burn the trash but never thought about moving the bike or telling me to move it. That resulted in another upgrade; A hot pink 93 CR80. Fuck, that thing was hot! I can remember it had purple anodized renthal bars and the first ditch i tried to jump resulted a blip of whiskey thottle endoed landing to face plant. Mom would haul me to the moto cross races were I got my first trophy. I grew. a 1983 husqvarna 250 that left many a scar on me. next, 89 rm250, 99yz250, 01 ktm250, and then the thumper revolution put me back on red. My first year working in a dealership and that 2004 crf450 was my first brand new bike. I was renting a small house with no garage but the old out house out back was just big enough for one shiny new red steed. Dropping bolts in the hole in the floor meant the bolt was gone and there was no need to look for it. Since then I have gone through six more CRF450s and two XR650s. a few air cooled xls and even a goldwing 1500. The old z50 sits front and center in my new shop. I wonder what the next red winger will be. On my work lift now is a 78 GL1000 and after rebuilding the carbs I can say Honda has a lot of peaches and cream and some of it is rancid ass fucktarded shit.
