Baja wants to know if this 17" Avon Pro Extreme rain tire will work similar to my good old 19" maxxis flattrack rubber. I have no supermoto friends to answer my questions so i look to my blog friends....
My first half season flattrackin I ran on 17" supermoto wets as I was building my bike up. Each race meet I'd have done something to the bike. The biggest/best change was to fit 19" wheels and propper flattrack tyres (Maxxis DTR1).
The wets just aren't soft enough and the sidewalls are far too stiff. They struggle for grip... I'd be two wheel sliding everywhere on them and when the track is wet/slick... it's like being on ice.
right on Paul, the 450 class and supermoto class will be combined at pikes peak this year and since the course is all tarmac now i opted to lace up some 17" hoops. Im thinking rain tires wil be as close to my trusty ol dt-1. The DT-1 was awesome grip on the tarmac however they are not perfectly round and symetrical. causing some interesting handling at full tilt.
MAXXIS is producing the DTR-1 again this Year...
